Photo corner or selfie box: which should you choose?

A photo corner is a backdrop with props; a selfie box is a machine guests step in front of. Here is when each works better and how to combine them.

What is the difference?

A photo corner is a set-aside spot in the room: a backdrop, a few props, maybe a sign. Guests photograph themselves with their own phones and the pictures stay with them.

A selfie box (also called a photo booth, photo kiosk or photo machine) is a machine guests step in front of. It takes the photo series itself, prints it instantly and makes it available in a digital gallery.

The two combine well: the selfie box gets a backdrop and props around it, so you have a photo corner that also comes with the machine and the printing.

When is a photo corner enough, and when a selfie box?

  • A small, relaxed house party: a good backdrop and a few props can be enough.
  • A wedding or company event: the printed strip is a keepsake, and the host takes the job off the organisers.
  • A branded event: the custom photo frame carries the company look to every guest.
  • If you want video: Selfie 360 gives you motion; see the Selfie Box or 360 guide.

Selfie machine, photo booth, photo kiosk: the same thing?

Yes, most providers use selfie machine, selfie box, photo booth, photo kiosk and photo machine for the same thing. Kapture calls it the Selfie Box. The difference is not the name but what comes with it: a host, printing, a custom frame, a gallery, a backdrop and props.
